Approximately 400 Oman Air employees gathered at a conference last week in Muscat to review 2015's achievements and plot the course for the year ahead.
The conference, which was themed "To Become the Best," featured presentations on the airline's outlook from an executive perspective as well as providing opportunities for conference participants to suggest ideas for moving forward.
Goals for 2016 that have already been established include maintaining the airline's safety record, continuously being the customer's first choice, earning enough to break even by the end of 2017 and making a positive contribution to Oman. The company also hopes to reduce its support from the Omani government to $103.9 million, down from $337.7 million in 2014.
"As 2016 unfolds, we will offer even more choice and convenience for our customers," Oman Air CEO Paul Gregorowitsch said. "We will work more efficiently and make greater savings. We will make an even greater contribution to the sultanate of Oman. And we will retain our focus on delivering the highest standards of quality in every aspect of our work."
The airline hopes to achieve its goals by increasing service to major population centers like China and India, developing its cargo business and growing its fleet.
The airline also wants to raise the level of Omani employees by 1 percent in 2016, to 63 percent overall. Airline officials said some of these employees will enjoy enhanced training thanks to Oman Air procuring and operating its own flight simulator building.
