Hamad General Hospital in Qatar will be the first medical facility in the Middle East to implement a robotic medication dispensing system, following an agreement with Omincell Inc. announced Wednesday.
The Omincell system is touted for the speed at which it assembles and dispenses patient orders, its space-efficient design, and high storage capacity. Officials said they expect the systems to provide medicine for up to 1,200 people per day.
"We are very pleased that our robotic dispensing solution has been chosen by one of the largest health systems in the Middle East," Omnicell's General Manager for Middle East and Africa Baha El Mahgoub said. "Omnicell's robotic systems can be configured to suit each specific customer's needs, which is a unique advantage over other systems. As a result we have been able to work closely with Hamad Medical Corp. to develop the solution that works best for them and meets their requirements."
Officials expect the system to be fully installed and operational sometime in February.
Omincell is a publicly traded company founded in 1992 that provides automation and analytics products to approximately 4,000 customers across the globe.
