The 12th Middle East Geosciences Conference and Exhibition (GEO 2016) welcomed energy industry professionals from more than 50 countries at its opening ceremony Monday at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Center.

"Today's Geosciences, Tomorrow's Energy" is the theme of this year's GEO, the largest petroleum geoscience conference and exhibition event in the Middle East, which runs through Thursday.

The exhibition portion of the event showcases oil and gas exploration technology, products and services available in the region while the conference part of the event consists of more than 200 technical presentations, over 120 poster presentations and five panel sessions.

"GEO has always sought to ensure its content and discussions are focused on key issues and challenges for the geoscience community, while placing them firmly in the context of the prevailing business environment," GEO 2016 Chairman and Mubadala Petroleum CEO Musabbeh Al Kaabi said. "The ongoing level of commodity prices makes this more vital than ever. Our theme 'Today's Geosciences, Tomorrow's Energy' underlines the importance of geoscience in meeting not just the immediate technical challenges that lie ahead of us, but also in delivering the growing demand for energy in a cost-effective and efficient manner."
