OSN plans to expand its TV offerings.

New High Definition channels and the launch of Ultra HD services are expected to be part of new benefits OSN, the Middle East and North Africa’s top pay-TV service provider, will be offering after recently signing a contract to increase capacity on the EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite operated by Eutelsat Communications.

OSN, which announced the expansion at the recent CABSAT 2016 broadcasting convention, continues to build on its decade long partnership with Eutelsat with a base of top quality content broadcast solely from the 7/8° West video neighborhood that extends into homes from Morocco to the Gulf.

“We are enthusiastic about this additional capacity which will allow us to offer superior TV quality to our viewers,” OSN Chief Technology Officer Mark Billinge said. “Our plans to move into Ultra HD reflect our continuous ambition to raise the bar and be at the forefront of the latest TV technology.”

OSN plans to capitalize on the added capacity to launch Ultra HD services that will allow for the most technologically advanced TV experience to audiences in the Middle East. The expansion will allow viewers to delve into an image with the quality quadruple that of full HD. OSN will also offer eight new channels while ramping up its HD offerings.

“Following the launch in August last year of the powerful EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite, this contract marks a new milestone in the growth story of the most popular satellite TV neighborhood in the Middle East,” Michel Azibert, Eutelsat’s deputy CEO and chief commercial and development officer, said. “We are honored to celebrate 10 years of collaboration with OSN and are committed to furthering our longstanding presence and strong partnerships across the region, including playing our part in the roll-out of HD and the launch of Ultra HD.”
