Qatar Rail recently shed light on the Doha Metro project during the 32nd GCC Traffic Week.
The company is currently overseeing the construction of Doha Metro, which is part of an integrated railway system being developed to decrease traffic congestion and accidents in the country. The Metro project will be an almost completely underground rail network, connecting communities within Doha and its suburbs.
"We are proud of our project -- proud and excited by the many benefits it will provide to our nation," Qatar Rail CEO Saad Al Muhannadi said. "As annual supporters of Traffic Week, we are well aware of the need and importance to raise awareness about road safety, and we are working diligently to provide a state of the art solution that would contribute to that."
Doha Metro will be an especially important means of transportation given the facts that Qatar's population is expected to reach 3.6 million by 2030 and the use of cars is predicted to increase annually by up to 15 percent.
"It's often hard to plan your life and work when journey times are unpredictable due to lots of traffic which creates stress for people," Al Muhannadi said. "Once completed, Doha Metro will provide a convenient and reliable alternative for people to get around the city with ease, meaning that traffic will be reduced and our roads will be safer."
