TASC Outsourcing in Dubai recently conducted a survey that looks into the career aspirations of graduates from across the United Arab Emirates.

"The survey is a good insight into the mindset of the fresh Emirati graduates," TASC Outsourcing Vice President Abbas Ali said. "We undertook this exercise to understand their expectations and preferences better, which in turn helps in creating better job opportunities and environment for the young population of the country."

Out of the 370 Emirati graduates surveyed, approximately half said they were optimistic about obtaining employment, with 80 percent preferring to work in government rather than the private sector.

Sixty-five percent of the respondents indicated they are interested in managerial positions and there was an increased interest in working in the IT sector. Sectors such as retail, fashion and education were also preferred, while employment in the health care industry was preferred by just a few of those surveyed.

Among some of the things graduates said they want in a prospective job are flexible working hours, the ability to work from home, good quality medical services provided by the employer and a good work environment.

A fourth of respondents said intense competition in the job market is a barrier to reaching their career aspirations.
