Extreme stair climbing proved productive for 18 Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry staffers who completed the recent Dubai Holding SkyRun in the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Offices.

Preparation for the event allowed chamber workers to scale all 52 flights in record time, raising $1,225 in support of Al Jalila Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization promoting medical education and research in the UAE, which is currently sponsoring research on obesity.

“The chamber is always at the forefront of supporting a local community cause and it was with the same zeal that our staff has been participating in the vertical marathon over the past several years,” Dubai Chamber Institutional Support Sector Senior Vice President Essa Al Zaabi said. “This time, staff members from our Sehhati wellness program … participated in larger numbers to support the charitable cause.”

In climbing the 52 stories, staffers logged 1,334 steps. The “vertical marathon” is the only Dubai course on the Vertical World Circuit, which also includes sites in New York, London, Paris and Hong Kong. The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in the event to publicize its emphasis on an active lifestyle and healthy living.

“Dubai Chamber believes in leading by example in encouraging and inspiring its staff members and the wider business community to participate in local community causes and to be healthy and happy at the same time, which ... augurs well for the society and the economic environment of the emirate for now and well into the future,” Al Zaabi said.
