Telecom company VIVA Bahrain recently said it has made an innovative commercial breakthrough with a triple-beam antenna installation - manufactured by China’s Huawei - with almost triple the capacity of conventional mobile towers.

The initial phase of the technology came during the 2016 F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix held at Sakhir Track when VIVA subscribers witnessed seamless connectivity to Bahrain’s fastest and broadest 4G network for the first time.

"Jointly with Huawei, we have achieved a great technological breakthrough," VIVA Bahrain CEO Ulaiyan Al Wetaid said. “We always look for new ways to further enhance our customers' experience and meet their demands for high data volume.”

Al Wetaid said VIVA Bahrain, owned by the Saudi Telecom Company Group, not only achieved its core goal with the network delivery, but also set a standard for environmental responsibility by diminishing the necessity of extra tower sites.

"Both companies worked closely to ensure the successful deployment of Huawei's solution, making VIVA the first operator in the world to use it for commercial purposes,” Peng Honghua, president of Huawei's Wireless UMTS Product Line, said. “Crowd management and sustaining network performance at these previously unreachable levels is truly a great achievement.”
