Texas A&M University at Qatar has new dean

Texas A&M University at Qatar Industrial and Systems Engineering Department Head Cesar Malave recently began his new role as dean of the educational institution.

Malave has been tasked with leading the engineering-oriented Qatar branch campus, including overseeing academic, research and outreach programs. He was appointed to the position during the spring.

"Texas A&M University at Qatar is educating the next generation of engineering leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in the state of Qatar and I am honored to have been selected to serve in this capacity," Malave said. "I look forward to the opportunity to work with the faculty and staff as they continue to educate world-class engineers and conduct relevant, impactful research that addresses Qatar’s grand challenges."

Malave has been employed with Texas A&M for more than three decades. He has been associate agency director of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), associate dean of engineering for the College of Engineering, associate dean for recruitment and international programs and a professor.

Malave replaces Mark Weichold, who is now the executive director for Texas A&M's College of Engineering's Halliburton Global Engineering Program.
