ALEXBANK has new non-executive chairman

Bank of Alexandria (ALEXBANK), one of the largest banks in Egypt, recently named Omar ElSayeh as non- executive chairman.

ElSayeh, who holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the American University in Cairo, has originated and developed private companies while serving for more than 26 years within the banking industry. In addition, he has worked for more than four decades in the consultancy, research, marketing, finance and banking sectors.

Prior to taking the position with ALEXBANK, ElSayeh served from 2007 through 2013 as the non-executive chairman at Barclays Bank Egypt, where he was involved in Barclays’ sustainability fields and the corporate social responsibility area of the bank. In addition, ElSayeh served as chairman of the board.

Before joining Barclays Bank Egypt, ElSayeh served for two decades at Citigroup in a number of executive roles while also acting as a contributing member of the company’s core committees.

ElSayeh has been a member of a number of boards and associations including the EGX 30 index committee at The Egyptian Exchange, the Egyptian Capital Market Association and the Economic Committee of the National Specialized Councils. He has also served as an elected member of the Federation of Egyptian Banks representing the foreign banks in addition to being a member of the British Egyptian Business Association and the American Chamber of Commerce.
