Recent reports show the number of travelers passing through Abu
Dhabi airports is growing.
Figures released by the airports show a 7.9 percent
flyer increase at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) in July 2016 compared
to the same month last year. Records show 2,267,572 passengers passed through
the airport in July, surpassing July 2015’s stat of 2,100,929.
Arrival and departure numbers increased at AUH by 10.4
percent and 6.1 percent, respectively. Exact passenger statistics show 1,074,022
passengers arrived at the airport in July, and 1,180,504 departed from the facility.
Local arrivals show an increase as well. Arrivals to Abu Dhbai excluding
transfer and transit skyrocketed 15.9 percent while departure took a small
leap of 1.8 percent. The U.S. pre-clearance facility available at AUH has been a
significant contributor to that growth.
Eid and summer holidays caused a boost in arrival and
departure transfers by eight percent and 8.6 percent respectively compared to
July 2015.
Five top destination locations accounted for 16 percent of
the total traffic tracked at the airport in July. The top destinations from Abu
Dhabi were London, Bangkok, Doha, Bombay and Manila.
Airline traffic to many of the world’s top destinations has
also increased. Travelers to India increased by 15.6 percent in July, while the
U.K. saw a 7.7 percent uptick in flyers for the month. Australia booked a 28.1
percent increase and the U.S. increased traffic by 17.2 percent.
