Dubai Electricity and Water
Authority (DEWA) has announced its participation in Cityscape Global 2016.
At
the event, DEWA promoted its Shams Dubai initiative at stand number S3E01 at
Sheikh Saeed Hall in an effort to grow sustainable development of Dubai.
Shams Dubai is a smart
initiative undertaken by DEWA to encourage building owners to install
photovoltaic panels of rooftops. These panels are used to generate electricity
from solar power that then can be used on-site or exported onto DEWA’s grid.
“Our wise leadership
attaches great importance to the diversification of the energy mix in the UAE,” Saeed Al Tayer, CEO of Dewa, said. “This is based on a vision that recognizes the significance of renewable and
sustainable energy in achieving a balance between development and the
environment.”
Al Tayer noted that the
organization’s efforts support the directives of Mohammed Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of
Dubai.
“Shams Dubai also supports
the Smart Dubai initiative launched by His Highness to transform Dubai into the
smartest city in the world,” Al Tayer said. “This also support DEWA’s efforts
in achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness to
provide 7 percent of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by 2020, 25 percent by 2030 and 75 percent by 2050, and make Dubai a global center for clean energy and green economy.”
