A trio of students and one professor from the University’s
Dubai Campus earned the silver award with their project on sustainability at
the Young Leaders’ Innovation Challenge (YLIC).
The team consists of Anto John, Raymond Antony and Kassey
Karuna, all Master of Science (MSc) students, and their professor, Dr. Mutasim Nour, director of MSc
energy programs at the Dubai Campus. The team submitted
its idea on sustainability, explaining how a government building chosen by the
foursome could efficiently reduce its energy use by at least one-fourth with
ideas presented by the team.
For its silver place results, the team gets to showcase its
project at the Intersolar Middle East event, a six-week internship within a Middle
East Solar Industry Association (MESIA) affiliated business in the UAE and
$1,500 in cash.
“The UAE is considered a hub for innovation and technology
and naturally, energy consumption is rising steadily,” Nour said. “Clean
technology is a requirement in order to achieve a system of efficient
sustainable energy generation and storage. Heriot-Watt is extremely honored to
have been presented with the silver award and we’d like to thank the Young
Leaders’ Innovation Challenge, First Solar and Intersolar for this
opportunity."
