Qatar expresses commitment to promoting peaceful communities

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi stated that Qatar is firmly committed to promoting peaceful communities during a meeting with leaders from other countries at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting, held in Qatar, included participants from Tunisia, Mexico, Norway, Sierra Leone and Cape Verde. It was held alongside the 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations with the theme "Creating communities of peace, a just and comprehensive in order to achieve sustainable development: the transition from words to deeds."

Al Muraikhi noted that armed conflicts and violence are destroying many lives and leaving serious repercussions. He also discussed the importance of collecting data and statistics to monitor peaceful progress and said that cooperation between government authorities, academics, nongovernment organizations and the private sector is the key to collecting meaningful data that help improve the lives of many. Qatar has played an important role in this effort, mediating peaceful agreements in many areas.

The meeting was held to give attending countries a means to form a strategic vision and discuss priorities of developmental policies.
