The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association
with Afridi & Angell Legal Consultants, recently hosted a workshop at the chamber’s office, entitled “Latest Developments in
Dubai Rental Market.”
The workshop focused on
regulatory matters affecting the market.
“The workshop is part of the chamber’s efforts to raise awareness about the legalities
associated with binding tenancy agreements and provide more clarity and
guidance on the rental dispute process,” Jehad Kazim,
director of legal services at the Dubai Chamber, said.
Attendees at the event included Dubai Chamber members,
lawyers and legal consultants, investors, real estate brokers, contract
administrators, landlords and tenants. Presenters discussed issues that
landlords and tenants face in the emirate. They went over how these people can
resolve such matters, as well.
“The Tenancy Law (as amended) and
the Rent Cap Decree have provided transparency and much predictability to both
landlords and tenants on topics such as lease renewal and increase of rent,” Shahram Safai, partner at Afridi & Angell, said. “Of
course, improvements can be made such as differentiating among residential,
commercial and retail tenancies, and streamlining eviction procedures.”
