The second Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament
(GSWS 2016) -- organized by the Federal National Council of UAE in cooperation
with the Interparliamentary Union, under the slogan "United for Shaping the
Future" -- recently concluded
in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
For the event, 34 female parliamentary presidents from across the globe
came together, along with around 400 parliamentary
representatives and more than 1,000 delegates from different disciplines,
including academics, opinion leaders, political decision-makers, entrepreneurs
and government representatives.
During the event, panels were held on political, social,
economic, ecological and demographic issues of global significance. Also of
importance at the conference were developments in technology that could shape
the near future. Experts from around the globe discussed female empowerment,
balanced gender relations and legal and legislative changes resulting from
technological innovations.
Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, spokeswoman for the Federal National
Council of the UAE, opened the event on Monday, Dec. 12.
