Qatar Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Thani
recently met with the permanent delegates of the countries comprising Group of
Friends to discuss accountability for the crimes against humanity and war crimes
committed in Syria.
Al-Thani noted the importance of activating the role of the
United Nations General Assembly in keeping international peace and security by
holding a special emergency session to discuss the Syrian situation.
He talked
during the meeting about the current efforts undertaken by the state of Qatar -- in cooperation with other member states -- to highlight the importance of
accountability for the war crimes.
Group of Friends, which includes a number of leading
countries in human rights and humanitarian efforts at the U.N. level, is chaired by the state of Qatar in partnership with the principality of Liechtenstein.
