World-traveling educator wants to put Ajman on the map

After serving in a variety of educational roles in Egypt, Chile, Brazil, Lisbon and Lebanon, Karim Seghir recently settled into his new role as chancellor of Ajman University in the United Arab Emirates.

"I am delighted and honored to serve as chancellor of such a prominent university that has been positively contributing to the advancement of higher education in the UAE and the GCC region for almost 30 years," Seghir said. "I look forward to working with the board of trustees, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, employers and friends to nurture Ajman University’s productive and diverse intellectual environment, and to strengthen the positioning of the university on the regional and global maps of higher education."

Seghir has been dean of the American University in Cairo's School of Business, a visiting professor at the Pontificia Universidade Catolica in Rio de Janeiro and the Universidad de Chile, a visiting researcher at Universidade NOVA in Lisbon, and an assistant professor of economics at the American University of Beirut.

Additionally, Seghir has served as a peer review team member for accreditation visits by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the EFMD Quality Improvement System, and a panelist for a number of organizations, including the Economic Research Forum.
