Nora Ibrahim Al Sada, second secretary of Qatar's permanent mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva, recently affirmed Qatar’s guarantee of non-discrimination against persons with
disabilities during the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Al Sada
said equality is a fundamental pillar of Qatari society.
“The principle
of equality and non-discrimination is a key element in all human rights
conventions, and the basis for the enjoying of all rights and freedoms,” Al Sada said.
Qatari law
guarantees equal rights and access to health care and education for persons
with disabilities. Schools in the country have been equipped with facilities to provide the proper environment for students with
disabilities. Additionally, people with disabilities in Qatar have the right to work, housing and social security.
Al Sada
said that to implement and ensure the principle of equality and
non-discrimination, Qatar enshrined protections in its constitution and
national laws. Qatar's national laws include provisions for persons with
disabilities to receive full access to public services.
