The College
of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Qatar University recently hosted the “First Meeting of the Departments of Arabic Language in the [Gulf Coast Countries].”
“The
meeting is a good opportunity to bring together experts from universities in
the GCC to understand the current status of the Arabic language in order to
ensure its continuity,” Hala Sultan Al-Easa, professor and CAS's associate dean for research and graduate studies, said. “We hope to put in practice
the exchanged ideas in this meeting and organize mutual visits between heads of
Arabic language departments from universities in the GCC.”
The event
was themed “Study Plans and Variables Age - Development challenges and
Prospects Update” and was held to address the challenges facing Arabic language
development in the GCC.
“The meeting aims to provide a platform to discuss and
develop contemporary study plans and programs," Maryam Al-Naemi, head of the CAS Arabic Language Department, said. "The Arabic language departments
are responsible for providing the necessary support to enhance the visibility
and the use of the Arabic language. This objective
cannot be achieved without the establishment of an intellectual platform that
helps us to develop study plans and interdisciplinary programs that facilitate
the combination between the Arabic language and sciences.”
