Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, president of American
University of Sharjah (AUS), Supreme
Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, recently bestowed the honorary title of professor emeritus to Fawwaz Jumean.
"I
believe that Dr. Jumean is an AUS pioneer who contributed greatly to the
overall development and success that the university currently enjoys,” Björn Kjerfve, chancellor of AUS, said. “He had an exceptional record
of administrative achievements and offered distinctive qualities that made him
eligible to be awarded the honorary title of emeritus professor."
Jumean led the university’s Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences (BCE) from 1998 until retiring in 2015. The honor
was bestowed during an AUS Board of Trustees meeting held on March
12 in London.
During the
meeting, Al Qasimi also approved the university's five-year
research plan and budget, including the budget for the first phase of the Research
Technology and Innovation Park. Al Qasimi praised the progress the university
has recently made.
"On
behalf of the university, I would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan
for his guidance and leadership," Kjerfve said. "The support His
Highness has provided to the university since its inception is immeasurable. We
continue to benefit from his wisdom as we move towards the next phase of our
development. I would also like to express my gratitude to the members of the
AUS Board of Trustees for their efforts and support."
