American University of Sharjah hosts luncheon to celebrate International Women's Day

American University of Sharjah (AUS) recently hosted a special event to celebrate International Women’s Day.

"Here at AUS and in the UAE, we have many reasons to celebrate,” Tania Kjerfve, wife of Chancellor Björn Kjerfve, said. “The UAE has in the last decades provided many opportunities for the advancement of women. Education always has the power to change the world; girls and women in the UAE have benefitted tremendously from plentiful educational opportunities in higher education. Colleges and universities now enroll and graduate more women than men; many of the brightest graduates of universities in the country are now women."

The event, a luncheon, brought together women leaders from both the public and private sectors and was hosted by Kjerfve. The event was themed "Be bold for change” and was also attended by senior administrative members, faculty and alumni. During the event, participants talked about various methods they could use to recruit and retain more women in business.

"At AUS, our students, both men and women, are provided with solid and rich educational and leadership opportunities,” Kjerfve said. “Our female students feel valued, respected and become confident women, equipped with knowledge, skills and assurance to embark in their professions of choice.”
