Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently met with the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
Qatar sent a delegation to the meeting headed by Sheikh Ali bin
Jassim Al-Thani, Qatar's ambassador to international organizations in Vienna
and its permanent representative to the IAEA.
The Qatari
delegation also included Yousef Sultan Laram, director of international organization at the Foreign Ministry, and Lt. Maj. Hassan Saleh
Hassan Al Nisf, deputy head of the National Committee for the Prohibition of
Weapons.
During the
meeting, the Board of Governors discussed issues related to nuclear safety,
nuclear technology, Iran’s implementations of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of
Action and safeguard implementations for North Korea and Syria.
Also of
note at the meeting was the re-appointment of Gen. Yukiya Amano for an
additional four years in office as the director of the IAEA. His new term will
run from Dec. 1 to Nov. 30, 2021.
Al-Thani
delivered Qatar’s congratulations on Amano’s re-appointment and belief that
Amano is wisely stewarding the agency.
