Taking place in Hong Kong on 27 June, the International Chamber of Commerce’s (ICC) Asia Conference on International Arbitration is just around the corner. Wondering what to expect from this year’s full-day event?
For lawyers, corporate counsel, dispute resolution practitioners and other business professionals with interests in the latest global and regional developments in international arbitration, we’ve put together the following guide to let you know what we have in store at this year’s event.
Key analysis on top-line issues and real-world solutions
Developed by our team of experts, the 4thedition of the ICC Asia Conference programme is packed with lively discussions, tips, tools and insights to keep you up to speed on the most in-demand topics pertaining to the region.
To kick-start the day, we’re inviting you to an optional breakfast to discuss ICC’s Expedited Procedure Provisions. The early morning session will be followed by a welcome address by the President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, Alexis Mourre; an overview of the ICC Court’s practices in 2017, provided by ICC Court Secretary General Alexander G. Fessas; and a keynote by Hong Kong’s Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng.
What’s more, we are bringing to the table a variety of on-point panel topics to boost your knowledge and enhance your everyday practices. Topics include the risks associated with Belt and Road investments in infrastructure and construction disputes; the pros and cons of obtaining urgent relief from emergency arbitrators and national courts; issues around how conflicts of interests are handled by various stakeholders; and a forecast of the future of the New York Convention which celebrates its 60thanniversary this year. The New York Convention initiative was driven by ICC who issued a preliminary draft in 1953 that was subsequently amended by the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

On Tuesday, 26 June, the ICC Institute of World Business Law—our specialised think-tank bridging divides between business and the legal world—will host its advanced-level training on oral advocacy in international arbitration. On Thursday, 28 June, the ICC Court will hold its regular plenary session in Hong Kong, for the second time in the country in the Court ’s almost 100-year history. The day will also mark the 10-year anniversary of operations at the ICC Court’s Hong Kong case management office. On Friday, 29 June, the ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy for Asiakicks off the first of its eight workshops examining the appointment of arbitrators. Finally, on 30 June, the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum (YAF) will hold its North Asia Regional Conference in Beijing for professionals aged 40 years and under.
