Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry issued the following announcement on July 3.

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Dubai Chamber) has showcased Dubai’s competitive advantages to audiences in South America. The organisation, which represents the interests of Dubai’s business community, participated in the recently-held ‘Pacific Alliance – a Business Challenge’ forum in Bogota, where it highlighted the emirate’s economic prospects and competitive advantages as a strategic trade hub.

Organised by Pacific Alliance – the Latin American trade bloc formed by Chile Colombia, Mexico and Peru – the forum was attended by more than 1,000 high level delegates. Outlining the various challenges faced by businesses within Pacific Alliance’s four member-states, the issues under discussion at the event included supply chain and logistics, public-private partnerships, investments and digital economies.

During the forum, Hassan Al Hashemi, Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chamber, took part in a panel discussion titled ‘Asia’s Insight into the Pacific Alliance.’ He highlighted the Chamber’s interest in developing economic and trade relations with Latin markets, as it considers them as strategic markets for Dubai traders. He

“Dubai Chamber aims to leverage its Latin America Global Business Forum platform and its South American offices to engage government leaders and key businesses. The Chamber is working to develop the region’s economic ties with the UAE, explore new avenues of cooperation and showcase Dubai’s potential as a global gateway,” said Al Hashemi.

Al Hashemi also encouraged businesses from the Pacific Alliance’s member states, to participate in Expo 2020 Dubai. He reiterated that with 25 million people expected to attend the six-month long event, the expo is the perfect for Latin American businesses to reach new markets and gain access to more than two billion consumers in the region.

Pacific Alliance is one of the largest economic groupings in Latin America, with the GDP of its four member countries representing 36% of the GDP of Latin America and the Caribbean. The main exports of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru include fuels, minerals, agricultural products and manufactured goods.
