U.S. Agency for International Development issued the following announcement on July 13.
On July 10, Power Africa, a U.S. Government-wide initiative coordinated by the United States Agency for International Development, signed a formal partnership with The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W). Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, B&W focuses on advanced energy and environmental technologies and services for power, industrial, and renewable markets.
The signing took place at B&W's offices in Barberton, Ohio during Power Africa's four-day domestic outreach tour(link is external) through Michigan and Ohio. As part of B&W's partnership, the company committed to developing 4,560 megawatts of coal, solar, and biomass power across sub-Saharan Africa.
B&W joins Power Africa's over 70 United States-based private-sector partners that support the initiative's goal of doubling access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. Through Power Africa, the United States is investing in infrastructure, technology, and services that will change lives and strengthen economies. In coordination with its partners, Power Africa helps facilitate the generation of new power through mutually beneficial and sustainable energy-development.
