Mubadala Development Company issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.
Mubadala, in partnership with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 and Al Jazira FC, has revealed the club’s new season jerseys incorporating the logo of the Special Olympics World Games 2019 in a unique design. The jerseys will be worn for the first time at the opening match of the Arabian Gulf League on Friday (31 August 2018) between Al Jazira FC and Shabab Al Ahli FC, and the logo will appear on the jerseys for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi goes beyond sports and competition. By capturing the attention and imagination of millions of people across the UAE, the region and around the world, the Games send a powerful message of diversity, determination, inclusion, unity and pride. Through this new collaboration, Mubadala, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 and Al Jazira FC are committed to delivering and amplifying that message by leveraging the power of sport.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will see the biggest humanitarian sporting event in the world coming to the UAE, marking its first debut in the history of the MENA region.
Commenting about the announcement, Homaid Al Shimmari, Deputy Group CEO and Chief Corporate & Human Capital Officer, Mubadala, said: “Mubadala is dedicated to supporting initiatives which encourage all members of UAE society to positively contribute to the achievements of our nation. Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, the board member of Al Jazira Club, the Chairman of Al Jazira Football Company said: “As extension to the great success of the Special Olympics IX MENA Games 2018, which was the biggest in the region with participation of over 1000 athletes from 31 countries, we, in Al Jazira Club, are excited to play this important role in promoting the hosting of the Special Olympic World Games 2019; with collaboration of Mubadala and the Local Organizing Committee of the Special Games. We are very proud that our team jerseys will include the official logo of the Special Olympic World Games, in line with the values of the United Arab Emirates, and with the vision of our higher leaders, who are always supporting the people of determination with laws and initiatives which has been developed to strengthen these efforts”.
Talal Al Hashemi, National Director, Special Olympics UAE, added: “The Special Olympics UAE football team recently returned from the inaugural Special Olympics World Cup in Chicago, where they performed brilliantly to reach the semi-final stage. Those athletes will be very excited and proud to see Al Jazira’s players now wearing their logo as they play this season.”
