Abu Dhabi Airports recently became the first aviation hub in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to have all its IT systems achieve the ISO 27001:2013 certification for information security.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification means the airport company is committed to operate under internationally recognized principles that guarantee strong customer focus, motivation and implication of top management, a process approach, and continual improvement.

Abu Dhabi Airports, which operates five airports in the UAE including Abu Dhabi International Airport, also was successful in re-certifying its whole suite of IT services to the ISO/IEC 20000 level. The company provides IT services for more than 100 other businesses housed in the airports.

Those services include office IT, datacenter and professional business support, all of which are provided within Abu Dhabi Airports’ campus.

“This new achievement exemplifies Abu Dhabi Airports’ focus on innovation and commitment to embed best practices across our entire operations including the iconic and ambitious Midfield Terminal Building” Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Abu Dhabi Airports' CEO, said.

The ISO rating is a big win for the company, but Abu Dhabi Airports’ job doesn’t stop with one certification. The ISO certification process must continually be renewed, and there is a yearly audit process to ensure companies with the rating keep up to quality management standards.
