Carillon Alawi, the Omani subsidiary of United Kingdom-based facilities management and construction services company Carillion, recently was awarded a development contract by BP in Oman worth approximately $124 million.
BP hired Carillion Alawi to build the operational base and an accommodations complex for its Khazzan gas project in the northeast Omani province of Al Dhahirah. The gas field was discovered in 2000 and is approximately 217 miles southwest of Muscat.
On top of the Khazzan field’s operational base, Carillion Alawi will construct a residential complex for 250 personnel plus other infrastructure buildings. Work on the buildings is expected to begin in September and is scheduled for completion in mid-2017, when BP plans to put the field into operation.
Carillion CEO Richard Howson said he is excited for his company’s opportunity to take part in the project.
“We are delighted to have been selected by BP for this important contract, which I believe reflects our reputation for safely delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions, and we look forward to working with BP in Oman,” Howson said.
The Khazzan field will produce gas and condensates extracted from a total proven reserve of 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Production is expected to be more than a billion cubic feet per day.
