International tanneries and manufacturers descended on Dubai for Leatherworld Middle East, the region’s first and only leather industry trade show -- a UAE-based tannery took center stage.

Al Khaznah Tannery showcased its 100-percent biodegradable and metal-free camel hide leather at the trade show. The Abu Dhabi-based tannery is owned by the Emirate’s government and uses only natural ingredients to treat its superior range of camel leather.

Al Khaznah is also one of the few tanneries in the world that is equipped to recycle up to 80 percent of the water required for leather production.

The facility produces more than four million square feet of camel leather each year, which is sold to leading international fashion designers, airlines, shoe companies and accessories manufacturers.

Sixteen countries were represented by 86 exhibitors at Leatherworld Middle East, which was well received by regional and international market players.

Al Khaznah Tannery took advantage of the opportunity to boost local partnerships and grow export markets at the trade show.

“By bringing together leading global suppliers and key industry stakeholders with regional and international buyers, Leatherworld Middle East will generate fresh business opportunities,” Messe Frankfurt Middle East CEO Ahmed Pauwels said. “We are extremely pleased to welcome Al Khaznah, a trailblazer and internationally renowned UAE tannery, for the inaugural edition of Leatherworld Middle East.”
