Oman Air is expanding its already successful recruitment drive, giving more Omani nationals the opportunity to become pilots with the airline.
Oman’s national carrier is now accepting applications from citizens who already have flight experience as well as those with no prior training.
Omani citizens with no prior flying experience or qualification who are accepted will be enrolled in the Cadet Pilot training program, which will be paid for by Oman Air. They will undergo initial flight training in an approved training organization and then go through a type-rated course.
Successful applicants with previous experience will be known as Ab Initio Pilots and will be enrolled as second officers on a type-rating course in one of the airline’s narrow-body aircraft.
Captain Moosa Al Shidhani, acting chief officer Flight Operations at Oman Air, said the airline is excited to give Omanis the option to become pilots.
“This step builds on our continuing recruitment program, which has resulted in a huge number of applications being received by Oman Air," Al Shidhani said. "It also reaffirms our commitment … to increase employment and career opportunities for the people of the Sultanate.”
Applicants for Cadet Pilot positions must be Omani citizens between the ages of 17 and 26, as of December 31. Ab Initio Pilot candidates must be Omani citizens younger than 36 years old. Their academic qualifications must include mathematics and physics on top of a minimum Level 4 ICAO English language proficiency and at least 200 hours flight time, including 100 solo hours.
