Djibouti latest freight destination for Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways announced that its cargo division will be able to fly to Djibouti beginning Friday, providing an opportunity for growth for the airline that considers African countries an important market for its cargo division.

Qatar Airways also has freight service to Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan and Uganda.

“Djibouti is an important market for Qatar Airways Cargo and for the Middle East, which benefits as a consolidation point for the African market due to its geographical location," Ulrich Ogiermann, chief officer of Qatar Airways Cargo, said. "This new route will further open up the African market to our customers who are increasingly demanding capacity to Africa, keen to maximize upon the numerous possibilities the country holds.

The weekly flight to Djibouti will focus on the transport of food items and pharmaceutical materials. 

"Qatar Airways Cargo’s dedicated services, such as QR Pharma and QR Fresh, can unlock this potential for businesses and consumers and provide opportunities for greater choice and competition within the market,” Ogiermann said. 

The airline operates out of Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, and supports one of the largest cargo terminals with the capacity to process approximately 1.4 million tons of cargo annually.
