When construction is completed in 2020, the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia -- at more than 3,281 feet -- will be the tallest building in the world.

The building is a component of a new urban development project in Kingdom City, which is just north of Jeddah. Kingdom Tower was designed by Chicago's Adrian Smith + Gordon Grill. The building will feature a hotel, offices, apartments and a shopping center. It will cover more than 5.7 million square feet and have more than 240 floors.

The tower is divided into a residential tower of 167 floors (2,211 feet) and the spire (up to 3,156 feet) encompassing floors 168 to 240.

Construction products for the project were provided by Schwing Stetter of India.
