An Embassy of Oman study shows that the majority of Brazilians hold Arabs in high regard and have a positive perception of nations in the Arab world.
The survey interviewed 741 men and women from various age groups, regions, and socio-economic levels in Brazil. Around 97 percent of Brazilians interviewed described Brazil’s Arab population as hard workers and another 93 percent said Arabs are respectful.
More than 90 percent of respondents described Arab residents as perceptive, entrepreneurial, educated, and studious. Between 85 and 90 percent of Brazilians saw the Arab population as intelligent, honest, ethical, happy, and good people.
The findings are encouraging news for the cooperative initiatives in the works from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).
The ABCC’s VP of Foreign Trade Rubens Hannun said the survey results are encouraging for his organization’s work to strengthen ties between Brazil and the Arab world.
“We remain committed to fostering solid communication channels and building bridges between the two regions through dynamic trade relations and exciting cultural exchange programs,” Hannun said. “The Gulf features a wealth of opportunities for many businesses in Brazil, while similarly Brazil offers wide potential as well. The positive regard of the Brazilian people for the Arab people and region will surely cultivate stronger ties.”
Brazil’s Arab community is estimated to be more than 10 million strong.
