Zain Kuwait partners with Huawei to build network capabilities

Kuwait’s largest mobile telecommunications company, Zain Kuwait, struck a new deal with the China-based ICT giant Huawei Monday to build up Zain’s virtualized network capabilities.

Virtualized network technologies combine traditional network infrastructure with groundbreaking cloud-based IT capabilities. The result is a more powerful, flexible and efficient mobile network that leverages the advantages of established and new technological functions.

The agreement has a timeline that exceeds three years, where Huawei will help Zain establish a cutting-edge Network Function Virtualization (NFV) program.

Zain will be the first mobile company in the Middle East to apply the still very new and experimental concept.

As the company combines traditional hardware with the latest cloud-based and software-driven solutions, Zain Kuwait’s leaders expect to see improved performance in virtual processes and streamlined operations. The NFV will allow the company to utilize resources more effectively while meeting customer demands.

“The concept of Network Function Virtualization is expected to change the ecosystem of modern telecommunications,” Omar Al Omar, Zain Kuwait CEO, said. “We are excited to work closely with Huawei on our virtualization strategy and to bring it live onto our networks as soon as possible.”

Over the next three years, Zain Kuwait will adopt a full suite of Huawei NFV solutions while a team of Huawei technicians work with the Kuwaiti firm to set up and manage the new system.
