Oman Air’s programs won the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year award at the ninth annual Aviation Business Awards Oct. 25.
The ceremony awarded regional airlines honors in a total of 15 categories at Dubai’s Park Hyatt Hotel.
The recognition for Oman Air comes after seeing success with a long-term dual-approach program to increase the accessibility of air travel. The first part of the program offers discounted fares to all Omani citizens, regardless of income. Those discounts apply to all destinations in Oman Air’s flight network.
The second part of the program specifically targets low-income Omanis who need to fly for special reasons. Discounted tickets for low-income citizens can be used to travel for medical, educational or social welfare reasons.
The social benefits of taking steps to ensure low-income residents have access to travel led to the Aviation Business Awards win.
Oman Air’s CEO Paul Gregorowitsch said the airline is glad to be recognized for its efforts.
“Oman Air takes its Corporate Social Responsibility very seriously,” Gregorowitsch said. “As the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman, we take pride in delivering tangible benefits for the people of our country. To be honoured by the Business Aviation Awards for doing so shows that we are having a positive social impact.”
