Maersk Group has a new CEO

Maersk Line CEO Soren Skou has been chosen to head parent company A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, a global conglomerate, which maintains a regional office in Bahrain and operates five core businesses across the shipping, logistics and energy industries.

"I am excited about the opportunity to lead A.P. Moller-Maersk into the next phase of our strategic development," Skou said. "The fast-paced changes of this world demand that we can adapt quickly, easily and at a minimal cost while retaining the focus on each business unit. Our future setup must effectively respond to these challenges."

Skou, who replaces Nils Andersen as Maersk Group CEO, has been with the company for more than three decades. He has been a member of the executive board since 2006 and CEO of Maersk Line since 2012. Maersk Line is Maersk Group's largest business unit and one of the world's largest container shipping company.

"Soren has strong business acumen and thorough knowledge of the group's various businesses and has successfully restructured the businesses he has led," Maersk Chairman Michael Pram Rasmussen said. "The board of directors knows Soren as a respected and knowledgeable leader with the ability to adapt quickly to market changes in close collaboration with the board of directors, the executive management and his employees."
