As part of the annual Ramadan campaign involving Abu Dhabi University and Zakat Fund, 280 university alumni donated more than $10,890
to help students in need.
The initiative, “Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat, Our Immunity,” helps students that meet Zakat conditions and are enrolled in any of the university’s undergraduate programs offered in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain.
Charles Diab, director of university advancement, said the most important part of this year's alumni iftar was the opportunity for alumni to expand their humanitarian horizons.
In the past six years, the annual campaign has raised $13.6 million
and has helped more than 1,500 students.
"As we work to achieve the campaign’s goal this year of collecting AED 5 million ($1.36 million) in donations, which will help 300 students through their college years, we are extremely proud of all of Abu Dhabi University’s alumni who have helped us to achieve that noble goal,” Diab said.
