Panasonic Avionics, Yahsat to explore broadband solutions across the Middle East

Panasonic Avionics and Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), which is owned by Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Development Company, announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly explore better broadband connectivity solutions across the Middle East over the next three to five years.

"We are delighted to be working with global brand and market leader, Panasonic, to enable high-speed inflight connectivity, and we look forward to jointly setting new global benchmarks,” Yahsat CEO Masood Sharif Mahmood said. “Building on our substantial broadband satellite experience in our markets in the Middle East and Africa, and leveraging our experience in delivering advanced airborne solutions for our customers, this represents another significant milestone for Yahsat, which prides itself on bringing pioneering solutions to our region, and beyond.”

Mahmood also noted that these technological advancements will help the company move into better compliance with UAE’s Networked Readiness Index Vision by 2021.

Paul Margis, president and CEO for Panasonic Avionics, said he believes the partnership provides a unique opportunity for the companies to develop state-of-the-art satellite communications around the Middle East.

“We believe that leveraging our combined vision for connectivity in the Middle East region will result in a truly unique experience for passengers in a wide range of vertical markets,” Margis said. “We look forward to working with Yahsat to deliver a solution that keeps travelers entertained and productive everywhere they travel.”
